Recommend this highly
I purchased the older edition at great cost, and, out of spite that the publisher had not only reprinted but revised such a book that I acquired based on assumed rarity, did not purchase this edition at first. If you do not own the previous edition, then there can be no question you should acquire this book; and the same holds true if you have it. This book and the author have an immense reputation, and I choose not to dwell on it, and comment only on this edition. There are additional photographs; in addition, the photos included in the earlier editions have been enhanced. There is much more contrast and resolution; they have been digitalized whereas the previous were converted by analog dot "screens" since photostatic contrast was TOO great, although some shots lose much of the atmosphere of the older ones and are of less artistic value. There is no question the informational value has been enhanced. I also cannot overemphasize the interest of the previously unpublished images.Highly recommended

A Welcome Addition
I love ships, especially old ones. Years ago I did hours of research at the University Of Utah library, and was delighted when I discovered R.A. Burt's 'British Battlships: 1889-1904'. There was information there that I had never seen anywhere before, indeed had never dreamed existed - minute detail about armor location and design, things that no one else ever mentioned. I saw that they had Burt's World War One battleship book, but it was in storage an since I was neither student, faculty or staff I wasn't allowed access to it. It would cost more than I could affod to buy a copy, so for many years I just lived without it.The they reprinted it. With additions. For a great price. I bought it as soon as I saw it on Amazon. I haven't regretted it yet. The book is everything I hoped it would be, with attention to detail equalling that of his first book. Money well spent, and I love the book.

Enjoyable
A worthy volume. However, those of us considering this will likely have most of the data, photos and drawings Burt presents. The line drawings are superior for everything except armor disposition, which gets a lengthy written description. A few anecdotes were new to me. My preference is for Parkes' book (which Burt rightly credits), hence 4 stars only. This is on the whole a great resource for wargamers.Beware the stratospheric prices sometimes seen amongst the used vendors. I recommend checking out an inter-library loan before spending more than $100.

A Must Own For Battleship Enthusiasts
This is my first book by R.A. Burt. A revised and reprinted edition by the Naval Institute Press. This hardback book is far superior to any other books I currently own about battleships. The closest comparable I own is "Conway's Battleships: Revised Edition." Burt's book includes through information about every British dreadnought of the time period. There are wonderful large and detailed pictures and line drawings. Included are also is information on the rare war purchases like the HMS Erin & Agincourt in addition to Jackie's little battle-cruisers.My only complaint for the book is the large line drawings of ships were have been better served with a foldouts. Other then that, the book is a fantastic collection of information. Now I only hope someone writes a similar book about German dreadnoughts.

Deals with the topic in a beautiful way
I loved the wonderful line drawings. The profusion of good photos didn't hurt either. A great study of a possibly overlooked subject.

Excellent
Only complaint is photos cover more than one page a much is lost in the spine transitioning from page tot page. But, still and excellent book with great photos. Recommended.

Outstanding reference!
This book is the ultimate in RN battleships of the First World War...the line drawings, color artwork and photos are outstanding. The Amazon price is also 30% less than the price a local specialty bookstore was charging.

Wie ich schon über das 1. Band "British Battleships 1889-1904" geschrieben habe: ein klasse Buch mitdetaillierten Beschreibungen und Skizzen und einem grandiosen Bildmaterial, in hervorragender Qualität!Empfehlenswert!

Excellent work
Anyone who is interested in the Royal Navy in ww1 will find this a most useful companion to any account of contemporary naval operations, as well as being a most interesting work in its own right. There is all the detail that most amateur historians could ever want, along with an authoritative text and photos that are as good as anyone could reasonably expect from more than 100 years ago, when only a few had cameras and the only way to get a really good image was to have a professional photographer lug around a heavy glass-plate camera and tripod.Yes, there are minor quibbles about the way that many plans and certain photos are carried across two pages, but these are really minor in relation to all the obvious strengths of this work, which places years of research and all sorts of hard-to-get information the reader's hands at the click of a mouse. It also has to be said that at less than £30 (Oct 2017) it also represents very good value for money, especially when a Sunday paper chock-full of piffle and adverts doesn't leave much change out of three pounds! If you only buy one book on British battleships in ww1, this is certainly the one to have.
