Great Green Option for Healthy Sleep
I originally bought an organic wool comforter on Amazon that wasn't washable and it stank. The smell wouldn't go away and really was making it hard to relax and sleep, it was nauseating after a while. In a desperate attempt to rid the smell I tried gentle washing it and it got destroyed. I was so frustrated, feeling I had wasting a chunk of change trying to create a healthy bedroom. I opted for this one instead of organic because it's washable. We have a regular sized King bed and this comforter is short on the sides, not wide enough to drape down. But it works as well as the organic and thank goodness doesn't have any unpleasant odor so sleep is relaxing again. When I combine it with flannel cotton bedding it is really warm and cozy. I prefer wool to down - allergic to feathers and don't like the smell. I used down alternatives for years which are usually polyester and I wanted something more natural. This comforter doesn't have the fluffiness of down and fake downs, it seems thin to the touch and moderately heavy when weighed. Can be a bit of a pain to get into duvet by yourself because it's big and dense. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. I'd say this is a great "green" option for anyone who wants to reduce chemicals in their bedroom. I researched the kind of wool it's made with and felt good about it's origins. It's cotton and wool, nothing synthetic.

NOT WASHABLE!!!--Updated
I've used down comforters for years. I'm a cold sleeper and need the warmth and mass of a comforter to sleep well. My wife is a hot sleeper and usually pushed the down comforter off in the middle of the night and used a light blanket instead.I bought this because it was washable and hoped it could provide the warmth and comfort I like without overheating my wife.I have to say the first night with this comforter was the best night sleep either of us had in years. It's weighty and warm for me but not too hot for her. It isn't as puffy and thick as a nice down comforter but that's a plus for us.If you want a washable comforter but don't want an artificial down I highly recommend this.UPDATE******OK, I washed my comforter on the "wool" cycle and dried it on "extra low delicate" cycle and ended up with a lumpy and shrunk up unusable piece of trash. It went from "best ever" to "not good enough for the guest bed".DON'T WASH YOURS! Dry clean!New Update 3/11/14Sleep and Beyond replaced the comforter with a new, washable version. The new comforter feels different than the original but is just as great. I have washed it and had no problems. The feel improved and the comforter feels softer than when new. I recommend you double check the packaging to make sure you receive the washable version of this comforter.

Quality item, heavy & warm - consider what is most important to you when deciding if this right
First off this is a quality item there is no question. I've owned this for more than a year and have just recently switched back to down, here is why. This comforter is warm, often too warm if you keep your house in the high 50s low 60s at night even in the winter. Its also heavy more than 9 lbs so you should consider that if buying - do you mind a heavier blanket? Personally I don't but my partner did. Having just switched back to down, it does feel like a weight has been lifted - the down is more than 3 lbs lighter. If you need a warm blanket - very warm this comforter is an excellent choice. If you like a heavier blanket its an excellent choice. If having natural materials in bed instead of synthetics is important to you this is an excellent choice. My biggest suggestion to you if your considering this blanket is factor in the weight/warmth issue - that will determine if this is the right fit for you.

Nice, natural, but really heavy!
I purchased this comforter as a healthier alternative in anticipation of the birth of my son. Although he doesn't sleep with us, his bassinet is right next to the bed and I knew he'd be cuddling on the bed with us sometimes. This comforter is well-made and great year-round. However, it's just so heavy! I'm generally satisfied with it in spite of the weight since I think it's healthier, but it drives my husband crazy. If any part of it hangs over the end of the bed, the whole thing slides off because it's so heavy! Plus my husband refuses to use it so it's always bunched up between us in the middle of the bed.It really has become a bit of a nuisance.

don't know -- It says its washable but . . .
I just received the wool comforter, however nothing on its packaging says it is washable, except the label stuck right into the comforter. That's reassuring, but when I went to the website, it specifically says the comforter is NOT WASHABLE. I have no opinion yet about whether the comforter will be comfortable in other respects. It is fairly stiff and somewhat heavy. Still, the most important thing is can I wash it? I don't like duvet covers, because they are so hard to put on the comforter. I don't know, maybe I'll have to go back to using them. This is the 3rd washable wool comforter we have had. The first one shrunk to half of its size. The second one shrunk just enough as to be just too small, but usable. We're hoping the 3rd try is the charm or something. I'll raise the number of stars once I wash it.

Washable? Who Knows?
Like the other reviewer, I received a comforter that is much heavier and stiffer than the one pictured.Definitely NOT a four-season comforter, but rather a winter-weight one. It is way bulkier than the one in the photo. It is also very difficult to get into a duvet cover, because the outer cotton layer is not smooth but grabby. It acts a little like velcroagainst my duvet cover, which is smooth cotton. This makes it very awkward to get the heavy, stiff comforter inside. The website says this comforter is not washable but must be dry-cleaned--which rather goes against the point of having anorganic, MCS-friendly item! I want to wash it in the hope that it will become less stiff and easier to get in the duvet cover, but fear it will shrink even on low.
