Mark Millar is the Michael Bay of 'please turn this into a show or movie' comics.
I remember the reviews from when this came out saying it was good, and ended up buying it now because I was looking for comics with Sean Murphy on art, and had never read it. I didn't even realize it was a Mark Millar book until I got it, but while reading it I could definitely see it. This comic makes me feel like I have ADHD, and the main characters are basically the bad guys the whole time, but I get the feeling I'm supposed to like them.It felt like 30% of the comic was just scenes of people flipping through different periods and places in time, just so Millar could look clever, but an actual cohesive story was sacrificed to do so.What are the effects of the main characters seriously messing with time? I dunno, seems like there was no problem. How did the main characters do all the things they did? I dunno, it was never explained aside from just showing panels of them in different times, with no actual time spent showing how they did things like bring technology from other times and places to where they wanted. How did the main characters completely fix everything they messed up at the end of the story? I dunno, it was never explained beyond TIME MACHINE!Recently I had read Millar's 'Reborn' series because I had started it back when it came out and never finished it, and was looking for stuff drawn by Greg Capullo. After reading that, and then this, and the first issue of 'Empress', it's pretty apparent that Millar has a style, which is to come up with an idea he wants to pitch to studios, slap it into a rough story and throw it out as a comic. He doesn't take the time to develop the story or let things develop, he doesn't have time for that, need to get the comic done in 5-6 issues, it doesn't matter if the things that happen in the comic make any sense or are at all feasible, all that matter is there is a general concept that can be easily pitched, which is a shame, because the ideas are really good, but the execution in comic form is really poor.

Masterpiece, even if you don't otherwise like Millar
This is a standalone masterpiece or near-masterpiece which should buy even if you do not like much of Millar's other work. If you or someone you know has happily taken doses of comics but has recently been injured by comics, buy this.Millar's earliest work was nothing short of a revolution, and it would be hard to write a better modern superhero comic (without lazily tripping into post-post-modernism) than Red Son. But when he started his own comics operation--which may have been a revolution for the business of comics--he churned out juvenilia. This intentional pap was profitable, and great stuff if you live with your parents.Recently though, Millar scored two hits that are so perfect they are upsetting. The first was Starlight, the second is Chrononauts. Millar must have gotten married or had kids or 3D printed a heart or just mellowed out. It is fantastic work.It is a throw-back, inside-joke, every-man fantasy pulled off with brains, heart and style. The throw-back style is nearly as good as Millar's recent Starlight, which is a clear comics masterpiece. The inside-jokes reference some 80s cultural highlights but it is not limited to that generation. And the every-man fantasy is wondering how many modern armaments it would take to win the great wars of history. And it has a beating heart that does not beat you over the head. As in Starlight, he moves you with the minimum number of images. All due credit to (and all hail) Sean Murphy. So go buy Chrononauts, Starlight, and Red Son.

Chronoauts was fast paced! Hits you like ah spilled Scotch! Travelin’ at the Speed of Light! Aye!!
Great Mark Millar Script. Four issues in one little TPB. It was Fast Paced! FUN! And something sorely missing from the other Big2 Comic Book Publishers, it was ADVENTUROUS!! I‘d not read anything by Mark Millar in 10yrs..! Yo that end, as I was reminded what a Wee Rebel Rouser he was/is...I went out and bought every single TPB, and/or HC tittle Mark Millar had published since 2010. Starting with KICK-ASS VOL 1, allll the way up to Huck, and Magic Society/Circle..? Whatever it was. And, yes-I have NEVER watched the Movie KICK-ASS. Now, I just finished KICK-ASS Vol 1. It was BLOODY FUNTASTIC...and had me LOL inside a Café..!! Simply...Violently Hilarious!! LOOVED IT! Plus, John ROMITA Jr., the Master Inker Tom Palmer(!), and Colors by Dean White..?!!! MIND BLOWING..!! BeST READ OF THE MONTH..!! And I read...well? Everything.

A really great read for any comic fan.
Spoiler free, quick review:I am a huge comic book fan and picked this up to take a break from all the major series' I've been following lately, and it did not disappoint. Mark Millar has diverted away from his consistently "dark" writing style to make something a bit more "light-hearted" for Chrononauts. A previous reviewer hit the nail on the head comparing this to a box office summer blockbuster type movie. With that being said, the characters are developed well enough for a standard trade-paperback without spending too much time on overly elaborate backstories, or writing them off as flat or one-dimensional. We're given just enough to understand motivations and root for them when the chips are down. It is essentially a buddy-pair traveling throughout the past, and getting in over their heads when they think they can outsmart everyone else around them, to include their bosses back home. The hilarity and action ensues, with some very cool time-exploiting visuals.I would recommend this book to anyone. Comic book fan or not, it is definitely an entertaining read.

It's not one of his best, but it's still good for a solid half ...
If you're looking for a thought-provoking, high-brow graphic novel: skip this one. It's a classic Millar adrenaline/testosterone-fueled thrill-ride big on bazooka's, busty bombshells and brawny bromantic one-liners. It's not one of his best, but it's still good for a solid half an hour of fun.I loved the manga-inspired artwork as well. This guy would draw a mean Metal Gear comic!Recommended if you're a fan of Millar's other books (but start with Kick-Ass/Hit-Girl, Old Man Logan and Nemesis.)

I dare you not to LOL
Not laughed out loud reading comics so much at the bromance time travelling! Highly recommended and perfect for a one off! Art is sublime; only bad point it puts my time travelling conundrum story I'm working on to shame! Millar's still got it :)
