too short
I loved the book and the author kept you guessing until the end. I just felt the ending was a little abrupt. Otherwise, I loved it.

Twist and turns
As usual Johanna Lindsey delivers an addictive read. You will find yourself not wanting to put it down till the very end and then you'll still want more!

A great distraction on a rainy day.
I've read all of Johanna Lindsey's books at least once, some of them more than that, and her more recent releases have left me feeling disappointed in a more rushed style of writing that was not worthy of her other books. That being said this new book renewed my faith in her as a writer, even if, as another reviewer suggested, she is using a ghost writer now.Alana has been gently reared in England by a man thought to be her uncle so it comes as a surprise to her when, upon her 18th birthday, her "uncle" informs her that he is an assassin that was hired to kill her as an infant but was unable to. In addition she is the sole heir to the throne in Lubinia and in order to stop a war there she must go back and assume her rightful place as the princess. Being naive, Alana thinks that the kingdom of Lubinia will believe her but since they have been confronted with imposter princesses since she left rather than meeting the king she is shown to the jail and only allowed to meet the head of the guards, Christoph Becker. Even though Christoph doesn't believe her he still vows to protect her since she seems to believe the lies and there is a lot of intrigue surrounding the disappearance of the real princess.I liked all of the characters involved in this book but the way they were written just didn't seemed familiar to me when compared to Lindsey's other works. It had some hints of her book "Once a Princess" but not enough to make it seem like it was written by the same author. Christoph was a very handsome male hero which seems to be lacking in a lot of books of late. The only complaint I have is that the ending seemed a bit rushed and the conclusion of what happened when Alana was an infant was glossed over quite quickly in the last pages-especially when so much groundwork was laid to create an intriguing subplot. Overall I would recommend this book to those looking for a light, quick, read on an otherwise boring day, they won't be disappointed.

Good storyline wasted
I’m a little lost when it comes to rating this book. The plot is interesting and engrossing so it gets five stars. The hero is no slouch: intelligent, dedicated to his job, honorable and heroic, even occasionally charming. But the heroine is such a dithering, childish brat that his sexual interest in her feels like borderline child molestation, and the “dream sex” was just creepy. So I think the heroine is where the book falls apart: she converses intelligently but thinks stupidly, she’s gullible, she acts irrationally, and she didn’t even have a chance to show off her fencing skills. The last straw for me was when her father told her she was going to marry into the family that had spent the whole book trying to kill her because that was the only way she would remain safe and she didn’t object. What??!! Apparently her stupidity was inherited.Bottom line: good story badly populated, author’s fault.

Don't know how I missed reading this book. Enjoyed the romance and the mystery. I thought I had read all her books. Glad I found it

Classic Johanna Lindsey
From beginning to end one of her best. She has the gift of keeping the reader enthralled and engrossed in her story.

Not worth the money
I bought this kindle version as I am an avid Johanna Lindsey fan but I was bitterly disappointed and felt I paid far too much for the book. The book is not up to her usual standard (when I say 'usual' I mean similar to the Viking/Arabian & Russian series, and the earlier Malory series which to be honest has been milked enough!), the storyline seems to be the same old structure and the romantic connection between the main characters is seriously flawed. I bought it as I own every single one of her books but to be honest over the last few years everything she has published seems to be churned out using the same recipe and its getting very boring. I doubt I will continue to buy her books as they do not keep me as interested as they used to.

Riveting
I read this book really quickly because it was quite addictive. It even surprised me even though I have read so many JL books that I can kind of guess her work. But she had me surprised and the last time I had a shock reading her book was the twist in Tender is the Storm. Great book, I highly recommend it. Downside.. male character could have been developed a bit more before they actually got together but there really wasn't enough pages to do that, so I am sure that got cut out in the editing!

AWESOME BOOK!
I've read many books and probably all Lindsey's, but I haven't come across such a good one in a long time. The plot is refreshing, comparing to other authors and Lindsey's books unique (stolen princess by her assassin), the main characters are witty, smart, entertaining and not at all boring. There were even some unexpected twists in the plot - which was a great surprise. The only thing that bothered me a little was that the heroine, who is presumingly very good at dealing with guns and swords, hasn't really "used her talent" much, which I kind of expected. But overall, I HIGHLY recommend this book!
