Great to extend an IDE cable for extra storage
Very hand to extend an older IDE cable to a hard drive. I've a bigger case and couldn't have both of my older IDE hard drives installed for extra storage as the IDE ribbon cable was too short to get to the second one. Got this and plugged in a second cable I had and all was good!Good solid build. plugs in securely.Just a note: I was using a 2 head master/slave IDE ribbon cable. I plugged this into the slave end of the motherboard IDE ribbon cable and then plugged the second cable into the HD using the master end of the 2nd cable. Oops, neither HD was detected. Swapped the master to slave into the HD and it worked!

Does what it’s meant to do
There are very few people who will ever need this. Unless you fully understand the host/device nature of IDE and have some distinctly non-standard hardware to deal with, this is not what you want.If it is what you want, it works perfectly.

Not 40 pin are actually 39 pin
I bought these to be able to test 40 way ribbon cables I use for work and couldn’t understand why pin 20 would always fail. After looking at both connectors it’s apparent that pin 20 isn’t even connected either end so there for it would never pass my test as such these are completely useless. I’m mad as only used them for the first time after the return window closed so paid £18 for two that don’t work as they state as 40 when they aren’t. Just beware of this point if your buying
