Stop Walking Your Dog: A Guide to Training Your Nervous, Reactive, or Over-Excited Pup

Niki French puts in words what many of us feel when we own a reactive dog
I bought this in audio book and finished it the same day. And then immediately I’ve ordered the hard copy so I can make notes all over the pages🤗I love everything about this easy-to-read-book. In particular, listening to Niki’s calm voice and soothing tones makes you feel instantly that she understands you and the struggles you’re having with your dog. She gets it! I laughed, cried, and saw things from a different angle within the first few pages.Listening to Niki narrate this fabulous book is all of my passion and empathy, but delivered in a calm and encouraging tone. If you have a dog that causes your chest to tighten and you feel like there’s no hope when you’re trying to navigate life, or you’re constantly apologising to others for your dog’s behaviour, I recommend getting this book in audio form and take on board what lovely Niki has to say. And then buy the paper version so you can make notes all over the pages 😁

My go to dog training book
Owning a reactive dog is tough! Crossing the street and hiding from all the things that set them off is stressful for the dog and the handler. I’ve previously had a reactive dog and now own a dog who can get the physical activity he needs. This book is a super useful tool for hot days and when you’re dog is having downtime too.Jam packed full of helpful tips and tricks and broken down into easy to follow steps. It’s hands down the dog training book I go back to time and time again.

Clear, safe, thoughtful - and right on the nail
This is the book that every dog owners needs to have on their shelves. Every single one of us thinks we need to walk our dogs daily, however stressful for us and our best friend. If we miss a day, we have a depressed dog and a guilty owner. What we need is someone with the experience and understanding of canine behavioural science to show us that not all dogs need to be walked every day and that there are a lot of other things we can do to help them have outlets for their behavioural needs whether they're a herding breed, a hunting breed, a sighthound, a terrier, sled-dog, mixed breed... whatever.SO this book isn't about leaving your dog in its crate because it's raining and you don't want to go out. It's about thinking through your and your dog's needs and finding creative, intelligent ways to meet them that leave you both relaxed and happy. And there's a FB group, Zoom webinars and 121s as follow-up if you need them.Totally recommended.

Incredibly helpful………
This book has been such a help with my young dogs. I am not at all new to dog ownership but my current dogs have been quite a ‘challenge’ lol. I live in the town on the coast but have some large green spaces which I have used with my various pup family members over the years. It is, however with the massive increase in dog ownership and coastal works (which closes down large areas), getting increasingly difficult to walk and train mine with so many dogs ‘off leash’ and owners not having a recall whatsoever! Frustrated I happened upon this book which I have found so helpful. I refer to it often and find it so practical. Can definitely recommend. Thank you Niki.

I wish I’d read this 2 years ago
This book is amazing, just what I’ve been looking for. If you want your dog to be happier, more relaxed and confident then this is the book for you. It answered all my questions and the concepts within are really simple to put in place immediately. Finally I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you Nikki for this wonderful gift

As soon as I had listened to it as an audio book, I immediately bought the paperback version too!
This is such a brave book title, likely to have controversial reactions, but Niki explains in a clear and compassionate way, why sometimes a walk isn't the best idea for our best pals. She doesn't suggest that you stop the walks and that's it, she guides you through the valuable alternatives and why other options are sometimes a better plan. The book is a lovely journey that takes you through first of all understanding what goes on in our dog's minds and why they sometimes have less than favourable behaviours. Rather than just explaining the problem, Niki spends the majority of the book explaining how we can be the best we can be for our dogs and to reduce those behaviours with compassion and valuable plans. Around 50 pages are dedicated to amazing games to help strengthen the bond we have with our dogs, and reduce their anxiety in various situations. This book is incredible value for money when you consider how much valuable content is included. I originally bought it as an audio book, but as soon as I had finished listening to it, voiced by Niki's patient voice herself, I immediately also bought the paperback version too, to have a permanent hard copy as a reference guide. I'm glad that I also listened to it, as Niki's passion for dogs shines through in how she reads it. I'm waiting with hopeful anticipation for when Niki writes another one...

STOP walking your dog
Yes yes yes!! We need to normalize that not all dogs can handle a walk. There are better ways to exercise and stimulate those dogs, like mine, who doesn’t enjoy and shouldn’t be forced into daily walks. This book does an amazing job at explaining this😍
