Hand-Held Stabilizer

Serious about filming? Get this!
Positives: Glidecam works really well. Requires a lot of time and patience, but is totally worth it when you are able to achieve flying camera shots. I use it a lot for Parkour and Music Videos, and it has been great with both my Canon Legria HF G25, and even better with my Canon 500D.Negatives: Really expensive, when compared to alternative stabilisers that are nearly as good. A bit annoying that you have to assemble it yourself, but again, is all worth it in the end.Overall: I will be buying the next few models in the future as my cameras become heavier. This is an amazing product, and I have really been inspired to get it because of Devin Graham! Check him out on YouTube!

Worth it
Buying a Glidecam does a lot, lets you get new shots, facilitates a great work out and improves your image. It is a product that takes practise, if you are expecting immediate amazing results you may well be better off buying a Movi system or equivalent, though obviously at a much higher cost. I personally use a Nikon D5100 with a battery grip, a zoom lens and often a mic, so as a result this means I need 3 weights either end on the base, which in turn makes it pretty weighty. The flipside is that in general more weight means smoother shots, many artificially add weight too, as more mass needs more energy to shift. As a result of getting the Glidecam and producing a couple of videos I've had many enquiries. It is very durable: I have had a couple of knocks with it, mostly coming at the cost of the lens, but thankfully the repair on the lens was much cheaper than the Glidecam.I would recommend this to anyone passionate about videography, though to those just hoping for minimal effort and amazing results this is unlikely to meet your needs. What I would say is that post stabilisation can do wonders when starting out, and then you can rely on it less as you get better - the warp stabiliser in AE is great and probably the best for this, however the stabiliser in FCPX does a very good job as well. This was my first main video with it: http://youtu.be/Ne7BNnwC2wA
