Fantastic Fix!
The media could not be loaded. I was not optimistic about being able to find a new track (sill cover) for these 50 year old sliding patio doors at our vacation home. This was the perfect part, and it made for an easy fix.To repair, raise the guide wheels in the door all the way using the adjustment screws on both sides (small screws on or inside on the two sides, turning counter clockwise). Once you’ve lowered the door completely in this way, it will barely raise out from the bottom (leaning in). My door probably weighs 80 pounds, so you’ll need a strong helping hand.Once the sliding door is removed, pull out the old split or otherwise damaged track cover with a pair of pliers. Clean the under-rail well and pull away any old glue. Lay a bead of silicone adhesive on the under-rail and lay in the new cover, tapping in lightly with a hammer. Then replace the door and readjust the guide wheels to raise the door. You may need to replace one or both of the wheels, and these are easy to find.Frankly, the hardest part of this project is cutting the stainless steel cover to size (I needed to take off two inches). You’ll need a sharp hacksaw, because this thing is super hardened (a good thing longterm). Put a little dry silicone spray on the rail once the door is replaced, and open/close a few times to fully seat the new rail.Fantastic fix, a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing the doors. Highly recommended.By the, this part arrived FedEx in three days to a relatively remote coastal property. Much quicker delivery than quoted at purchase, and reasonably priced.
