Tried few devices to get my old knives sharp, most hard work or poor results. I can say this works straight out of the box dull knives few strokes was optimistic until used and cut my finger on a light pass, razor sharp. Definitely don't take it for granted. More sharpenimg and be like razors.

Just get a whetstone set
Ultimately this did a poor job of sharpening knives for me, and a little research into the subject shows that that is the expected result with this style of knife sharpener.What it doesn't do is create a really good edge, that is robust, straight and sharp.I didn't get the sharpness I'd like to have, on a range of knives I tried it with but they did get sharper because I picked entirely blunt ones.However, I can get better results with a whetstone and you could too.I would suggest get this if you are truly trying to deal with some cheap, dull knives and you are definitely not going to spend the time to do it properly with a whetstone, which is not hard. A good edge with a whetstone is easy, a razor sharp one requires skill and practice. But you don't need that for most purposes. You are better off using this with your knives if the alternative is doing nothing at all.Design wise, it's easy to hold in place, and run your knife through. It's easy to operate. It's robust so I wouldn't expect this to fall apart.Also you can pay someone to sharpen knives professionally and it's not as expensive as you'd think so if you are simply trying to offload the effort consider that. A proper job is probably better than buying new knives because you won't do it well yourself.
