Perfect for my needs, lamp is not battery powered though.
While I have only used this one time so far for about 8 hours, the base quality in my opinion is high and the magnets are strong. The base is metal and has enough weight to not lose balance at all for my usage. I had a cheaper set up and the difference night and day, this set up was well worth the money spent. The light is pretty nice, but can get warm. It did not overheat, was using it for about 6-7 hours in a wall plug during a single session. It would be nice if there was a battery option for this light, but if you have a wired set up for your working area to run a soldering station already, this is not much of an issue. Extension cords work for the rest if you do not have an easily accessible plugin. The plastic on the alligator clip that you press to open the jaw does come off at times. If you need to hold a plastic part (my example was a bullet style speaker wire terminal that are smooth sided) the plastic on the jaws that protect the parts you hold may cause the part to slide a little. In that type of situation, the mini vise is your best option as it seems to have a rubber or silicon pad to protect the parts being held. The mini vice is very nice to work with, but has a bit of play in it. I had need to tighten up a few things from time to time to stop a swivel motion, but it holds the parts well once it is in the grip. There is a bit of play in the vice when opening and closing it, but it does hold parts very well so I am not displeased with the mini vice at all.

This is really handy and versatile
Working on anything small is tedious... Soldering two wires together, also tedious.I can say this helping hands station helps a lot. Only cavaet is the size of the base isa little on the small side. Otherwise, it's nearly limitless configuration makes tediouswork much less stressful.

I needed this a long time ago!
I used to use the old Radio Shack version which would move and the screws where always coming loose. This one is solid and holds your parts steady! The 4 little PCB holders are impressive - I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but the spring-load shoulders should hold PCBs perfectly.
