A Great Resource For Teens To Explain The Gospel And Its Effects on Sexuality
This book tackles the issues of gender, sex, identity, and abuse in a way that does not minimize its complexity. It does not heap shame on its readers for struggling with the brokenness of the world, and it does not turn these issues into a black and white list of do’s and don’ts. It also addresses these sensitive topics in a way that is not overly graphic or uncomfortable. It could even be read in a large group without making anyone blush…Probably.Instead, Jennifer places these issues where they belong, as a part of a much larger story. She explains not only what God tells us to do, but why it matters. She addresses the heart of God towards us and the foundational principles that allow us to discern for ourselves where lines should be drawn and boundaries put up. She also emphasizes the abundant grace available to us when we sin. This book helps to explain in real, tangible ways God’s good design for us and the world, why our experiences of the world do not currently live up to the goodness of that design, how we should respond to the current brokenness, and why we should have great hope and expectation for the future. Although its focus is on sexuality, the book has ramifications that go far beyond that one subject. The easy language and discussion questions make this a great resource for teens and any adult working with them. It is great for laying the foundation for thinking through these issues. Further resources are likely needed to completely wrestle with a specific and pervasive struggle of an individual, but this is a great place to start, and the book offers suggestions on further resources.
