Perfect for people with hand and wrist pain.
I vacillated on wether to try a Kindle or not because I LOVE paper books. Like everyone else reviewing I love the feel of a book, the smell of a book, the cover art. That said, as a dental professional who has job related arthritis my hands and wrists hurt tremendously holding a book for any length of time. So I decided its a low risk at $100 and purchased one. I am SO happy I did. I love my kindle basic. Its so light I can read for hours in any position, lying down holding it over my head, sitting up, on my side, without any pain. When I've had a particularly long work week and my hands/wrists hurt in general I use a stand and page turner and its a readers heaven. No more struggling w a heavy book and clumsy book light at night; I happily read in bed w candlelight. If you have hand pain like i do treat yourself and get a kindle. I wish I had done it sooner.Extras that i appreciate are: time on screen so I dont get too lost in a book. Time left in chapter/book. Adjustable brightness. Battery life. I also love how customizable they are.

Best Kindle I've owned. Weight, set up, charging time, and ability to read in sunlight or in bed.
Wow! I started with the 5-button Kindle in 2011 and acquired various tablets from Amazon and others along the way. The post 2011 devices had the same problems: they didn't work well in sunlight and were too bright for my nighttime reading. Phones and tablets interrupted reading with e-mails, texts, calls, updates, etc. Other than the 5-button Kindle, they were "heavy."The new green kindle works outside in Texas sunlight, inside on the couch, and in bed. This Kindle weights less than my 5-button Kindle and easily fits in my shoulder bag or gym shorts. My charging station charges the new Kindle in minutes. My audible books play via Bluetooth to a Bluetooth speaker when needed. Said another way, if you wish, you can listen to books or leave the speaker at home or in the trunk of your car - no weight and no wires.I still use and love the 5-button Kindle, but the green Kindle is a wow. Finally - set up. There is no setup. Amazon configures it in advance. You turn it on and start reading. Because of my experience with Kindles from 2011, there was no learning or need for a manual. However, I wanted to find the answer to a question and went to Amazon's FAQ and "Help" webpage. This is the best Kindle I've owned (still love my 5-button Kindle).

Love the size!
I love the size of this kindle! And it weighs less than my phone by a lot. I also purchased the matching case which is also nice but weighs about as much as the kindle. That part is a bit of a let down. I wish kindle would make more useful cases like 3rd party sellers make with kick stands and hand straps. Anyhow, the device is nice but I’m not sure about the battery life yet. It was at 86% when I opened it yesterday and it’s at 34% already after reading just one book. That’s a big drop for one book. Anyhow, I truly love the size and the matcha green color!

Kindle basic vs onyx Boox Palma 1
Kindle vs Boox PalmaLove this thing! The 2024 Kindle Basic is probably the best e-reader you can get *at this price*. but to be honest, if I bought it again, I'd probably spend an extra $45 for the Kindle paperwhite. The battery life is incredible—I easily get 50 days between charges, which blows my mind. It’s lightweight, easy to read on, and does the job well if you just want a simple, reliable reading device. That said, I do wish it had a blue light filter for nighttime reading, and after using my Boox Palma 1, I realize how limited the Kindle is in terms of customization. I use the Boox way more because of how flexible it is.If you’re just looking for the basics and unbeatable battery life and reliability, this is the one. But if you want more control over your reading experience, definitely look into Boox Palma 1 or the Kindle Paperwhite for the blue light filter.

Ads vs No Ads
Update: been about a month Ad Free and I highly recommend getting ads off. No swiping to open, so it registers much quicker. Ad Free lock screens are much less distracting than Ad Supported lock screens :)This is my first Kindle. I originally bought it Ad Supported thinking I wouldn’t be bothered based off other reviews. But the ad is the Lock Screen. Meaning, when the kindle is turned “off”, the screen does not go blank/black, it defaults into a random ad. Some ads are book recommendations (though they don’t feel targeted toward me, so maybe just sponsored) and others are Kindle Unlimited subscription ads and things of that sort.I decided to pay to have ads removed, as I found the “always on” screen distracting. HOWEVER, now the Lock Screen defaults to a randomly selected stock image photo of nature or art of some form. I was hoping I might get to choose my own, or have the option to just have a blank screen. Maybe I don’t understand kindles, but regardless, I don’t love that. A case with a cover might remedy this. The Home Screen of the kindle presents book recommendations and current reads. I like that just fine.I transitioned to the kindle after only reading on my phone via the Libby app. For me, reading on the kindle is harder- specifically, it is harder to navigate chapters if I wish to go back, I cannot immediately see how many pages are left in a chapter (only minutes), and turning the pages is a little more sensitive. That being said, I prefer the screen of the kindle to my phone. My eyes don’t hurt. I can read while I walk. I don’t get dizzy or strained. The size is perfect for me. I have 5’10” woman sized hands and it still sits so comfortably in them. The color is beautiful. I recommend it, but with a grain of salt. I imagine as I continue to figure it out, I will come to love it more.Note: I put my kindle in dark mode and selected a smaller font size than default
