Excellent Book!
Excellent Read. I was well entertained with this book that had me laughing and intrigued at many occasions. Gives great insight to how operations were back then and how much they have changed. Also interesting reading about a part of the war effort many people look over or never think about. Props to the authors for a well written story and bringing this information to light. Enjoyable reading about the American can do attitude and how it helped win the war. I highly recommend this book for those interested in history or the oil and gas industry.

Americans drilling for oil to win war
I grew up in the oil fields and had never heard anything about this. The book describes the difficulties, accomplishments and dangers of the very secret effort to drill wells and get the much needed fuel to defeat Hitler and his bunch.

Great for oil & Gas Drilling Historians
Well written and informative if you are knowledgeable of the oil and gas drilling industry. Mostly anecdotal recollections but an excellent read for someone like me who loves the history of the drilling industry and has been in the business for 40+ years.

How Texas and Oklahoma oil field workers kept the British from running out of oil in WW II
Reading this book was for me like reliving the days as a nine year old boy in the East Texas oil fields in 1946. The whole story told in this book is absolutely amazing both from the American and British perspective.

The great contribution to winning WWII
I learned of this book by an e-mail from a friend. I was intrigued and purchased it. We have all read many books about this war but most were related to combat. This one I doubt if anyone ever heard of. It is a detailed report of how England sent an envoy to America asking for help in developing oil production in England in 1942. We responded by organizing a group of 50 roughneck oil men to go to England together with American equipment promising to drill 100 wells in a year’s time. This was accomplished and exceeded. They worked two 12 hour shifts seven days each week. Along the way they shared their knowledge with English oil workers so they could continue after the Americans left. One of the hardest hurdles was to provide adequate food to sustain this hard work due to rationing. Some of the men lost 30 or more pounds and struggled to continue. How this was solved is interesting. We get to know the men and some Englishmen as the book proceeds. If you are looking for excitement this is not the book for you but if you are interested in one of the keys to attaining victory the contribution of these hardy men is inspiring.Jack B. Interesting piece of history
I ordered this after recommended by an old ex work colleague who is a friend of the authors and also a geophysicist. I enjoyed it immensely, despite some repetitions and a slightly one sided view. I'm not diminishing the valliant effort from our American cousins during that period, however they didn't win it on their own. Great book. More photos would have been an awesome added touch.
