Contains Phenolic Resin
A varnish with phenolic is extremely hard to find. My use was a small kitchen project and phenolic resin is more water resistant than acrylics that I've had experience with. Also won't cloud when exposed to soap like acrylics. Goes on thick but starts to set up within 15 minutes. The newer version only comes in a gloss - they call it medium but enough of a gloss that will hide wood grain with reflection. I will be using this product again. Disclaimer- No connection to anyone connected to this.

Excellent sealer, very durable!
I LOVE this stuff! It is fantastic! We built custom countertops out of pine boards and used Waterlox to seal them. I used a very light shade of stain mixed with the first layer of sealer as directed by the manufacturer, then 2 more coat of the sealer and a final coat of this satin finish. It was VERY smelly even with the low voc formula so I definitely recommend good ventilation and a respirator. I did sand very lightly with some 300 grit paper before the last coat because we had a little bit of dust In spots that I wanted to get off. We have been living with them for 2 months now and they are very sealed. Water has dried up on it in spots around the sink without staining or damaging the wood. I haven’t had any problems with newspapers or plastic bags leaving ink behind or anything. I will say that it does highlight any imperfections in the wood, the nail holes and cracks the we used wood putty on stand out, which I don’t mind but something to consider depending on what look you are going for. I am very happy with it, totally worth the money.

A bit of a learning curve, but the final product looks good!
We decided to go with the waterlox line to seal butcher block counters in our kitchen after some online research. We did the install in our new house prior to moving in, so the smell and time to dry between coats weren't negative factors for us.This was our first time using these products and there is definitely a learning curve when working with this to get a perfect finish. Even with some imperfections due to trial and error, our countertops look good and we have had no issues from water damage in the 7+ months since we finished sealing it.

Great product - packaging is frustrating
Great product. I gave my new cherry butcher block countertop 3 coats and it looks beautiful. I assume it will perform very well over time. My only hesitation on 5 stars was the difficulty of removing all the clips that were installed on the can lid to keep it safe during transport. They are not easy to get off and I accidentally poked a hole in the can lid trying.
