These bad reviews here are misleading, in my opinion. Certainly, the book is in German only, so people with any language can use it. Especially for beginners it is at first difficult to decipher the exercise descriptions. But once this is done, it's fine.I work with this book for years now (up to B2.2) and I also know a language school that works for years with it - with good success. I find it well structured, with the grammer well integrated into thematical chapters, and also providing a broad approach to the language. The app with audio and video is nicely done, very helpful and gives also a bit of an insight into German culture. Students in general really like the book!It is probably easier to use the book with a teacher.

While I already had some German knowledge when I started using the book, I can say that this is an excellent introduction to the German language. After finishing most of it, I was able to confidently use basic expressions on a variety of topics!

I used this book for my German Year 1 Level 1 evening class. The entire book is in German which didn't bother me at all because in the beginning I used the Collin Easy Learning German Dictionary and Google translate very often. This book is very well organised into 7 chapters which I found them all to be very useful.

This book is used in my German class, which is the reason for my purchase, however, because of the rather negative reviews I didn't expect too much of it, and now having used it, I share the comments of other purchasers. There must be a dearth of decent teaching materials otherwise I don't know why language schools would choose to use it.

On the plus side, the material in the book is well-structured and systematic. The book is divided into two sections, the course book and the exercise book. The CD that is included contains material for the latter only. The first half of the book is based on audio and video material that the publisher has chosen not to include. You have to pay a really quite large amount to buy it separately. Although there are some downloads on their website, these contain many errors - conversations and other audio snippets that do not correspond to the ones in the book. Someone was asleep at the wheel here.As several other reviewers have pointed out, this book is completely in German, and so if you don't have a teacher who is using the material in a fully integrated way with their teaching, then naturally it is not going to work as well as it might. The book and associated materials are clearly not designed for self-study, so don't buy it if that's what you're expecting. I've also noticed that there seem to be many teachers who insist that a book is purchased for a course, but then ignore large chunks of it, including the one that I am taking currently.Sadly this book therefore cannot be recommended, but the defects that I and others have pointed out appear to be not atypical by the standards of language teaching.

I was on a 22 hour/11 week adult learning course, and (for some bizarre reason) this was chosen as the main book for the Beginners Plus course. In all honesty it isn't ideal for beginners who have no/limited knowledge of grammar. Firstly for a book aimed at German beginners, I was surprised that not a single word in the book is in English - not even the introduction. Our teacher would lead us through the exercises, but now that the course is over, I've struggled with a lot of it. Secondly, the page numbers reset for each chapter, so 'turning to page 36' will take you to several different places. I've never seen this format in any book that I've read or studied with. I have to say that the audio for exercises is authentic, and you pick up on how a native speaker would sound, HOWEVER the CD that comes with the book is completely different, meaning you'll have to download the exercises audio online (at least it's free). With guidance, the exercises themselves are straightforward, but I wouldn't recommend this on it's own. I'd suggest pairing with a dictionary and another book with the basics of the language.I'd only recommend in a classroom with a teacher, otherwise there are other books which are easier. I haven't opened it since my course ended, and I'm now using other books, CDs and apps in my self study. 2 stars because the exercises themselves are straightforward, but overall I'm not going to buy the rest of the series.

Not a home study book. Probably ok for classroom

Ordered this book for my German class, it’s quite complicated and you need to ask a teacher how it works.I personally don’t like it.
